Unsurprisingly, considering the Ruhr region's early degree of industrialization,
the University of Stuttgart began its life as a university
of technology and engineering. Only in the 1960s was the status
of a full university awarded to the institute. Today, the university
offers a full range of courses covering most academic topics.
The nearby University of Hohenheim which formerly specialized
in agricultural studies now offers a multitude of courses in a familiar
atmosphere.
